HMI and alarm message translation
Operator panel messages have little space and need to be clear. Translating controls, machine states and alarms requires an understanding of the function as well as the individual string.
Message lists may contain abbreviations, codes and placeholders such as %0 or %1. Identify these before translation. Character limits, capitalisation rules and component names used in the manual are also useful. A screenshot or explanation of the function helps resolve ambiguous strings.

Details to agree on
Provide stable string identifiers, source and target languages and length limits. Mark tags, variables, codes and text that must not be translated. The machine glossary helps maintain consistency between interface and manual.
Frequently asked questions
How are message variables handled?
Identify placeholders and protected text in the source file. Their preservation should be part of the request and checked in the result.
How are display limits addressed?
State the limit for each string. Wording can be agreed according to the meaning and available display space.
